Truss Loft Conversions
The roofs in many contemporary homes – specifically those built after 1960 – are supported by trusses. These are W-shaped wooden diagonal braces that ensure the weight of the roof is evenly distributed.
Trusses play an important role in keeping your property stable, but they will typically take up lots of room in your loft, rendering it practically unusable. It’s impossible to simply remove them, as this will cause the roof to collapse – however, our truss loft conversion specialists have the experience and the expertise to transform your loft void into a practical, beautiful space whilst ensuring the structure is adequately supported.
To develop a truss roof loft conversion, our team will normally need to replace the wooden trusses with load-bearing steel beams. Once installed, these will replicate the effect of the original trusses and bear the brunt of the roof’s weight. The wooden trusses can then be cleared away to create space for an extra bedroom, bathroom or study.
Once the trusses have been replaced safely, it’s time for us to work out what can be done with the remaining space. If the height of the loft is too shallow, we can also raise the ridge line of your roof; if you want to allow lots of natural light to enter the space, we can install dormer windows.
The cost of a truss loft conversion will depend on the complexity of the restructuring that’s required. If you’d like to learn more about this particular type of conversion, don’t hesitate to contact Landers Lofts – we’ll be able to answer all of your questions, and we’ll also be able to tell you if you’ll require planning permission in order to complete the works.
