Loft conversion
How Much Does a Loft Conversion Cost?
The simple answer is: it really depends!
The cost of your loft conversion will depend on the type of extension you’re having done, and whether the project requires us to simply upgrade the existing loft void, or restructure this area of the property to create the space that you need.
On a tight budget? Consider a Velux loft conversion.
Velux conversions, otherwise known as roof light conversions, offer a relatively affordable way to transform your living space. If you’re living in Essex or London, you can expect to pay upwards of £30,000 for a small-scale skylight loft conversion.
Feeling flush? You may benefit from a dormer loft conversion.
These are perhaps the most common types of conversion, as they lend themselves well to virtually all property styles in the UK. Dormer loft conversions are, however, are a more complicated undertaking than your standard roof light extension, which is why you can typically expect to pay between £30,000 and £50,000 for the works.
Want to splash the cash? Try a Mansard or hip to gable conversion.
Hip to gable loft conversions involve ‘straightening out’ a sloped roof to create a vertical wall, and therefore creating masses of space inside the loft. They’re a great option for detached and semi-detached properties, and can often be added to chalets and bungalows, too – but as you can imagine, hip to gable conversions require more work than roof light or dormer conversions because we will need to significantly alter the structure of the building.
Mansard loft conversions are at the highest end of the price spectrum. They look fantastic, but extensions of this size and scale will always come at a cost. Generally, homeowners in Essex and London can expect to pay upwards of £45,000 for a straightforward hip to gable or Mansard conversion. Particularly complex building works will be more expensive.
